The big island of Hawaii offers some of the most memorable experiences imagined. This trip is different to our Tonga trip as we all share one big house, drive around in a big van and explore the whole island.

What to Expect

The trip is structured to include everything the Big Island has to offer plus our own activities. 

Our days are packed full of experiences such as:

  • Wild dolphin Swims
  • night Man Ray swims
  • Wild Hawaii boat trip- looking for pilot whales and other animals.
  • Volcano tour
  • Waterfalls and rainforest tour
  • Daily Yoga
  • Daily Freediving
  • Awesome food in local restaurants (lots of Poke - raw fish)

Day 1 Arrive in Kona

We will pick you up at the Kona international airport or at your hotel if you arrived a day early.
We will head over to hire any gear you may need and after lunch, will head over to snorkel with sea turtles.
Night is spent at Kealakekua Bay.

Day 2Dolphins!!!

We will start this day with a dolphin swim in one of the many bays. Dolphins are not guaranteed and if they are not there – we will run our first freediving session at Honaonao bay.

Day 3Dolphins again :)

Our days will now revolve around dolphin swims, freediving and evening yoga sessions.
Depending on the weather – we will

Day 4Trip to Volcano national park

After an early dolphin swim, we will drive to the south of the island and visit the amazing active volcano. Expect to see smoke, lava tubes, rainforest and great views on the way.
We will also visit some waterfalls on the way back.

Day 5Day out on Wild Hawaii boat

Weather permitting – we will spend half a day on an ex navy vessel looking for dolphins, manta rays, pilot whales and sharks.
this is a super cool trip which usually results in some fantastic wildlife encounters not possible from shore.

Day 6Dolphins and night Manta swim!!

After a day around Captain Cook, we will travel up to spend an afternoon on the beach. After sunset – we will get wet and swim with some manta rays!!!

Day 7Last day in Kona

After a boring swim with the dolphins we will pack our gear and head up to Kona. After lunch we will say goodbye…

Solo Traveller

I was about to say that I just got back from the best holiday of my life but that would offend the whales in Tonga. I can’t decide. My heart is broken – again, leaving those beautiful ocean creatures behind.
Travelling? Freediving? Only with Apnea Australia, of course! Thank you Erez for the most amazing photos. See you next year in Hawaii…
